Hi New member here. Sorry to bring back an older thread but this has inspired me and my xj550 is stripped ready for the cafe treatment.

I was hoping col could answer a few questions.

I notice you used an sr125 front hub, I have a chance to get an sr front wheel am I right in thinking this will work ?

I bought an xt600 rear wheel so all i need now is some alloy rims where did you get your rims laced to the hubs?

Does the rear hub get centred or is it slightly off for the chain run?

Sorry, this ad is no longer available.

A unique Yamaha XJ550 cafe racer that I built up over last year & have had great fun on. What was once a twinshock commuter bike has now been transformed into an eyecatching bike that always has people looking & talking about it if & when you stop.

The original bike was stripped to the bone & parts replaced , modified or adapted where required. the list is as follows. Many hours & ££££Ss spent on it.

Original wheels removed & replaced with 17" wire wheels with....

Yamaha SR125 front hub, stripped, powder coated & new wheel bearings fitted. Double butted stainless spokes fitted to a 2.5" x 17" alloy rim. Aprilia RS125 320mm floating disc fitted with alloy spacer. Front tyre is 100/80x17

Yamaha XT550 rear hub, stripped, lightened, powder coated, new bearings fitted, new brake shoes fitted, double butted stainless spokes laced ot a 3.00"x17" alloy rim. Rear tyre is 130/70x17

Front forks are standard XJ550 fitted with new seals & oil. An Exup 4 pot caliper used & hooked upto a stainless brake line & Exup master cylinder. Vast improvement over the standard XJ set up. A Micron fork brace helps as does the steering damper bolted to the lower yoke. Standard yokes are used although trimmed down & cleaned up. NSR125 clip ons grip the forks below the top yoke giving the cafe racer feel to it all. Chrome quick action throttle. Levers are all new also. Tapered head bearings are fitted.

A small chrome 4 1/2" bates headlamp hides behind the alloy front number board. All wiring has been trimmed down to what is required & the battery hides under the seat hump. The seat hump is all steel & fabricated to suit the lines of the bike. A cateye rear lamp neatly tucked up in the rear. FZR400 seat was extended & recovered although this needs done again as there is a tear hiding below the gaffa tape at the lhs front area of the seat. I wil provide some material for the winning bidder.

    Rearsets are from a GPX600.

New chain & sprockets were fitted. K+N style air filters with the carbs jetted to suit are the only modification to the engine. New oil & filter was done also. The exhuast started out as a Motad 4-1 & has now been lightened & shortened & gives a fantastic sound track..

Rear suspension comprises of XJ550 swingarm mated to the top half of a XT550 swingarm & uses a RD250LC rear shock. This was stripped painted & the spring powdercoated to match the hubs.

The original revcounter has been mounted in a RD250 binnacle & a cycle speedo is used on the lhs handlebar to check your speed & distance. it has covered around 400 miles since I finished it.

Paintwork is done in a Fiat metallic black, silver with orange pinstripe then two pack lacquer.
MOT till August 2013, Taxed for six months

Fancying a change so selling to se whats out there.. WHY????
May part exchange for right bike VFR, FZR, GSXR, ZXR, SZR or similar
