Sorry to post about question #1000 in a month. I must have set some kind of record...

I've been searching the forums for instructions about whether or not to install my new carb bowl gaskets using any kind of adhesive. I still need to set my fuel levels so the bowls will have to come on and off a few times potentially.

    Thanks.

I didn't use any on mine and they've never leaked. Even after spending the good part of a day doing float levels (I'm slow).

I put it on the bowl side, the permanex spray a gasket, and the gas promplty melted any it touched. They do stick now to the bowl (so well I got really confused and thought I lost one  ) but I would not recommend it.

I know you don't need it.
But I seal the Gasket to the Bowl.

I put the Gasket on a sheet of Paper and smear Sealant on the top side.
I put the Gasket on the Carb and get it lined-up nice.
Press the Bowl on and remove the Bowl and Gasket.

    Once the Sealant sets, ...
I paint the Carb Body and the Unsealed side of the Bowl Gasket with Marvel Mystery Oil.

Next time you need to remove the Bowls ... they come-off neat and clean and with no tears or rips.

I don't think they do. I didn't use adhesive and I've have no problems whatsoever.

P.S. Don't worry about the Q's, that's why this site exists!

OK, I think I'm going to go without it this first time and see how it goes. Thanks, everybody!

I am probably going to get fried for this, but I didn't even use new gaskets. I just cleaned the old ones off (practically plastered to the bowl) and put a nice thin layer of RTV on the bowl side. I made sure to make sure it wouldn't get in the bowl but no issues yet.

You only need new ones if they tear usually.

I wasn't going to replace mine and actually DIDN'T the first two times I had them off, but then I decided to boil the carbs and have them soak in carb cleaner for a few days, so the gaskets did NOT survive all of that. I'll be installing the new ones as Rick suggested.
