OK i have an 82 750 maxim that has he cast aluminum (i think) handlebars that are each individually adjustable, each side is a separate unit, kinda square looking and adjustable where the risers would normally be and at the last bend in the bars buy the clutch and brake brackets.

My problem stems from the position of the bars, they sit in a position than makes me tuck my elbows in to m sides in a very uncomfortable position. i figured I'll adjust them, turn the left bar clockwise a few degrees at the yoke and the right counterclockwise, to open up the bars, they overall length from left to right would be wider, and the grips would sit a couple inches forward from where they were, i figured it would solve the problem, i went into it and removed the hex screw the held the bar tight to its post and the screw that applied downward pressure. it was then i noticed a small tab that fits into the assembly that replaces the risers. it allows maybe a degree of adjustable space, and does little to alleviate the problem,

I would ignore it and bolt it all back together but once the tab is out of its normal space the bars don't sit properly on the post. the post and bars have interlocking teeth to hold them in position after tightening, so i think my easiest solution is just to grind off that little tab,

Any opinions? safety hazards? the cable seem to feel ok and if they aren't i can always move em back for the time being.

    Thanks
