Anybody try anodizing or powder coating your bike parts? This sure seems to leave a nice finish. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to do it yourself. I'm thinking on doing some test trials.

You guys are killing me! I want and need to re-paint Brutus but don't want to lose the riding time!
Have a dear friend who owns his own powder-coating business and he's promised to work with me to do my lil 550. I have til Spring to choose a color scheme for him but am so tempted to try to stay with that original Yamaha black with greenish tints. What to do what to do - lol. I'll make sure to document the process so we can all learn more about powder-coating. Seems to me to be the way to go.

    Some ambitious people around here.

I have my own powdercoating oven and knowing the process to get a good job, I'd have to say that it's not worth it to create your own home based system unless you have a LOT of things to powdercoat.

Based on the cost to set up the smallest of systems it is much easier to pay a hundred bucks and have it done professionally.

A box of powder alone costs around 180 bucks(AUD) let alone all the other bits required.

My personal choice if building a show bike would be a two pack paint job rather than powdercoating. Finish is better and less likely to chip while rebuilding the bike.

    Cheers

I did my powder coating at a firneds. Hes got the Eastwood Hot Coat gun and the Harbor Freight one. Both are decent guns. We used the Eastwood powder also.

For a oven just used a cheap old electric one found on the roadside somewhere... Just hang stuff inside as necessary... Not rocket science. But if your plan on only doing a little bit best to let someone else do it.

Also make sure to sand blast everythign well...

i've had my side covers powder coated before. Was not thrilled with the end result. cost was 100 bucks (for 2 covers and then it was just the outter rings only not the inserts. but it was good to repaint over them. so go figure.
