I have a 82 xj650 maxim "BEST BIKE I'VE EVER OWNED!!!" 50k miles in less then 3 years and LOTS of abuse and burnouts!! hehe :) well with that being said you can probably already assume what I'm about to write next... if you picked "2nd gear" your a winner!!!

    (now my question)

How much stuff is different with an 83 Seca Turbo 650 motor, as in wiring, mounting, ect ect... to the plan 82 650 maxim???? from the looks of both bike's... it looks pretty much bolt, plug, and play!! :D

NOTE: I'm am a very skilled Mechanic, Welder and Fabricator... Nothing really scares me.. I love to build "things" that snap peoples necks :D

    (everything)

You'd be better off finding a normally aspirated 650 or 750, or fixing the gear.
The compression ratio on the turbo seca is lower, so if you don't bring all of the turbo set-up with you, it'll actually have LESS power.

If you do, you'll need a lot of the wiring, it's got a knock sensor, and needs a completely different TCI.

The carbs are proprietery Mukuni's that are pressurized by the turbo. Then there's the whole exhaust setup/intake plumbing. And the fuel pump/plumbing.

Really, nothing about this is bolt on, or plug and play, the only thing similar will be the cases and displacement.

This question's been asked alot recently. Is there a glut of turbo engines out there, or is everyone thinking this is an easy "upgrade?"

LOL, no, no glut of turbo engines.....at last count, completely unofficial of course there are less then 1500 on US roads and less then 300 in the UK and Europe. Every turbo owner should own two things, two of the check valve/bolts located up at the oil filter for spares!

Still pushing 18PSI and loving it!
