My XJ700 sits in a heated garage and it sat for about 10 days, pulled it out yesterday and she didn't want to start. Gave it a little starter fluid and she purred like a kitten. Even after frequent stops no problem. This has happened once before after sitting.
Does this happen to anyone else, is something wrong or just doesn't like to sit.

Try turning you petcock to "Pri" for a few minutes before you try to start it. It happens to my 1100 after sitting for long periods of time. Don't forget to turn it back to "ON" after it starts.

Makes sense as the gas in the inline filter was almost gone. Is that a evaporation issue ? why does this happen ?

I'm not sure how much of an evaporation issue it is. My filter is almost empty after sitting for a couple of days too. It also could be a SLIGHTLY leaky float needle, coupled with a GOOD petcock, and maybe even leaving the bike on it's side stand. I've been thinking of adding Stabil to a tank to rule out evaporation in the float bowls.

I don't know exactly WHY, but I would think yes. The fumes normally end up it the crankcase. If you were to put your nose to the oil fill hole after sitting all winter, you would normally smell gas in the crankcase. That's why it's so important to change the oil before you start riding every season. The oil gets diluted by gas from just sitting. That is my thought. To make starting easier, Ride Every Day.

My experience is that turning the petcock to "prime" requires under 30 seconds to refill the fuel line and the bowls. If your bike suffers from stuck-float syndrome (or leaky-float-valve-seal syndrome) then you'll risk having gas pouring out of the carbs if you leave the petcock on "prime" too long. Don't ask how I know this.
