Aftermarket brake rotor

    Does the EBC 2023ls brake rotor fit a 1981 XJ650 as the manufacturer says it does? It sure as hell doesn't seem like it.

    Do you need spacers of some type with aftermarket rotors? I know the thickness is less than stock, but I've read that's alright with aftermarket rotors.

    When slotting the pads into the fork notch, the caliper bolt hole doesn't want to line up squarely with the hole in the fork. If I can get the pads lined up within the fork notches, and the caliper bolt started, the pads bind into the rotor. Something isn't quite right.

    is your caliper moving freely on the caliper holder. under the plastic cover there is a round headed pin with 2 rubber boots it slides on

    Do you have a Maxim or a Seca?
    Did you press the caliper piston back into the caliper body?
    Has the caliper been rebuilt?
    Has the master cylinder been rebuilt?
    Have the brake lines been upgraded, or are they still the OEM from '81?

    I have the ebc book the 2023 is listed for the 650 maxim 550seca and 750 seca 298 mm diam
    The 2019 is for 650 seca is smaller at 266 mm diam

    Maxim. Caliper is freshly rebuilt, master cylinder new a year ago, brake lines new two years ago, and the piston won't go in any further. Upon rechecking my service manual last night I noticed that I torqued the pinch bolt first, and axle nut second, which squeezed my forks more than they should have been. I'll have to check this afternoon when I have a chance.

    That could definitely cause the problem you're having. Check back in once you have looked at the axle.

    Well, the improper axle tightening certainly could have been a factor, but wasn't the main culprit. The brand new pads I got appear exactly the same, but the angle of the "pad meat" is incorrect. I'm assuming the new pads are for a right side brake, and my bike only has a left. Old pads have maybe 400 miles on them, so for the time being ill slap them back in. Everything tightens and spins fine with the old pads.

    image.jpg Looking in the ebc book fa61 is for maxim , xs750 , left hand disc they are cut on an angle the fa 41 is for right hand disc on xs750/850 virago etc did someone give you the wrong side pad set image.jpg ebc fa 61= sbs545=vesrahvd216=ferodofdb247
