    Hey guys,

What are the popular aftermarket coils for an 82 xj750? I know there's different resistances. And for the the people that have them, did it make the bike easier to start? Thanks in advance.

I haven't installed any as yet but many have installed the Dyna-Tek coils and none have complained. I have heard complaints and problems with the Accel coils. The Dyna DC1-1 is the correct coil for our bikes. Thing to remember about resistance is you can go a little higher but never lower than stock primary resistance. Our stock resistance is 2.5 and the Dyna's are 3. Main advantage is easier starting especially with cold temps and better fuel burn which leads to better fuel economy and a slight increase in power.

Bluemaxim sums it all up very well; I installed the Dynas and though it was late autumn I could start the bike without choke for the first time in a month or so. The bike runs smoother but then again, my original coils had very bad internal connections to the ignition wires.

A thorough write-up about the Dyna-installation (for a Maxim-X but with lots of comments on connectors, wires etc.) can be found here:

Cheap Ass Coil conversion would be to use Bosch Coils from a Hall equiped distributor car Most any post '80 VW?volvo Saab and likely BMW.. Exact electrical fit...Almost free but a bit big to fit neatly.

I saw that JCW.com has nology coils for our bikes. I'm not familiar with the bike applications but alot of ricers in the sportcompact car scene swear by them.
