    Hi,
I just bought an Emgo Air Filter for my 82 Seca 750 on Dennis Kirk. After looking at some of the other air filter options, I noticed that some of them require the air filter to have oil put on them. Does this Emgo Air Filter need the oil put on? I didn't see this in the specs so I am assuming that I don't. Is this the correct assumption?

    Thanks for your help.

Is it a foam type or a paper element? Foam should need oil, paper does not.

I have the same type of filter, from the same place. It doesn't need oil, as it is a paper element type filter.

Yep, no oil. I got the very same paper filter 2 weeks ago from local shop.

What are the pros/cons of using one or the other (paper or foam)? Is there any big difference? The only difference I see from the surface is that the foam costs more and that you need to do the additional task of oiling it. :?

Paper is a one time shot, two if you blow it out carefully from the inside out. It has very good filtration characteristics but as it loads up with debrise, it's efficiency and flow drop off rather quickly. Additionally, when the paper gets wet, your filtration drops off drastically and you have to wait for it to dry out before your flow returns (this is provided the water doesn't ruin the filter). With the foam types, you can actually experience better filtration as the element loads up (take a look at what K&N hawks, they have a decent website) and you can reuse them over and over again (again, K&N offers a million mile warrenty). K&N is not the only one out there so shop around for what you like. I bought the UNI filter (finacial constraints: $35 v $48) which is foam and it tends to last about 8 years. I have since taken the UNI carcass and re-foamed it for about $13. UNI sells the foam sheets and you can use it to make any type of filter you care to. I've rebuilt my brothers Venture air filter using his stock carcass. Cost, nada! Dealer wanted over $70 for the little sucker. That sheet I bought has rebuilt three filters so far and I've plenty left for two more. Just remember to replace the filter gasket foam as well (weather stripping foam is perfect, get the closed-cell type).
