What's the easiest way to remove the airbox on a 1982 maxim?

Easiest? Sawzall. I'm a newb but the only way I would recommend doing this is if your bike was in spec and running properly first. If you run into a problem then you're going to have to source a new one which will not be too easy.

You could take off the front motor mounts and rotate the motor forward, then take a heatgun to the box to manipulate it out, I suppose that would be the easiest way to remove it and keep it intact.

Hint: it's the funky background music that makes it possible!

I think it'd be damn near impossible with the carbs in place.

ITt's 100% impossible with teh carbs in place, if the intent is to keep the airbox intact.

The EASIEST was to get the airbox out and leave the carbs in place is to let someone else do it. THEY will have to remove the carbs first, though.......then they can heat it with a heat gun and slip it out.

I do it the next easiest way..... I remove the carbs myself, and then heat the airbox.

Actually you will be heating the airbox and folding it up so you can pull it out.

Hmmm I guess that will make more sense to me tomorrow. I'm pulling that area apart tomorrow. Don't worry y'all I have many mechanic friends. They'll fix what I break but I'll keep you all informed haha that battery box was a son a bitch to get out.

Pods are in. It's colder than Alaska at the moment here and my garage is unheated. Very crappy work area. So here's my next question. If I fit the pods on the carb now inside the warmth of my home will there be clearance to install all of it?

It's gonna be the same parts that get put in the same places regardless of where you do the work, and regardless of temperature.

I think you misunderstood me, do I have to install the carbs onto the bike then pods or can I bring my carbs inside put the pods on them and have enough room on the bike to slide them back in. I visualized it this morning. Think it'll be fine

Carbs go on first, then the pods.
