Airbox

How well would one of these work on an XJ550 ('81, 4V8, European Secca): http://www.steeldragonperformance.com/air_boxes_7.html? I'm looking at alternatives to replace my pods (factory one is hard to find).

I checked the custom airbox threads on this site, but some start off with a factory airbox and others never post the final result or design.

 

I can forsee a couple of problems. One problem of the pods is insufficient space to generate the correct air velocity, and I think those custom pieces you linked would have the same issue. You'd likely still have to mess with the jets. The other issue is that they're designed to fit the Honda CB line, and I doubt that they have the same dimension as an XJ carb rack. It's a damned shame, because they're really pretty parts. The velocity stacks ain't bad either... There are some custom options for the velocity stacks, but I bet it'd get costly to get a custom air box made for your Seca.
