Looking for the rubber boots around the carb, as mine are cracked. Any tips or help would be appreciated.

I guess the model would help. I have a 1980 maxim 650, so anything that would fit!

The 1980-81 set is slightly different than the 1982-83 set.

The carb-to-manifold boots have different bolt patterns between early and late models.

Mounting bolts patterns are as follows:

For 1980-81, all four boots have the same bolt configuration ...
    \ \ \ \

For 1982-83, the joint for # 1 and #2 are reversed due to YICS Stuff. The later bolt pattern is:

    / / \ \

You CAN get away with flipping a boot upside down , but I'd only do that as a temporary measure, though I know some people who do that and just ride on.

Well, you CAN do it, but I'd advise against it. It's not just the orientation of the vac port cap that is different, it is the bend orientation of the manifolds that really accounts for the differences:

    - the left side manifolds bend upwards and to the centerline of the bike (i.e. up and to the right, as viewed from the rear of the bike looking forward)
    - the right side manifolds bend upwards and to the centerline of the bike (i.e. up and to the LEFT, as viewed from the rear of the bike looking forward)

Thus "flipping" a manifold in order to get bolt-hole alignment on the '80-81 bikes will result in either:

    - manifolds that bend properly inwards, but also bend DOWNWARDS.
    - manifolds that bend properly upwards, but also bend AWAY from the centerline of the bike.

You can imagine the type of problems that either situation will cause in regards to carb installation and vacuum sealing..........

That's correct, and that's why the rest of the statement was also made.
