today i have ideas in my head that we should think of

    motor cycle engine types

    standard 4 cylander
    standard 1 cylander
    and v twins
    and dual v twin

well ive been reading on how stuff works and reading about engines in general

well the things are in my head and i have to get them out im an inventor i have a couple patents

well my engin type in thinking about is

Rotary like in the Subaru they can get really high rpms my not be good on gas but really high rpms just torque it out and you have a very fast bike

and air powered engines no pollution and free you just need a compressor

does any body else have any types of things that they have in there head that the need to get out but only inventing maybe we can come together and build something

Thats too funny. Bean Power LOL

Steve as far as trying to reinvent the wheel. I like my fosil fuel hydrocarbon burning bike just like it is. Good luck with your ideas.

Steve, what will drive the compressor that compresses the air that makes the bike go?
Also it has been my ubderstanding that Wankel type engines have their share of trouble. Leaking engine seals and such.
Of course you sure don't need a skeptic telling you what works and what doesn't, that's the cool thing about inventing. Making something that noone else has ever thought of.....makes you wonder why they didn't but if youre the 1st then you might get rich.

    Good Luck

well what im thinking that it wont have a compressor it will just have a tank that you put compressed air in to it that will last for about 150 miles and you take it home to your compressor its just an idea at start is there a rotary application for a motorcycle

Steve, Suzuki made a rotary engine bike the RE5 from 74-76. Found it on google.

Yes but not air.We played around with the idea a little in shop when taking refrigeration. Not to power a bike just the gas laws and how to change forms of energy "chemical to heat to mechanical and so on.Good luck with your ideas

After Norton quit making conventional-powered motorcycles, they were reborn for a while making rotary engined bikes too... http://www.nortonrotary.org.uk/

Ok, let's try adding some physics. Work out the efficiency of compressing then expanding the air, and you'll find it to be less than 10% Most of the energy is lost heating the gas up during compression. You get some of it back but the second law of thermodynamics states that there is no such thing as a free lunch. In a closed system energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only change form from a higher grade to a lower grade.

The reason we can drive for 150 miles on one tank of gas is that we are converting a very high grade form of energy, ie. the fuel, to a very low grade form, ie. the hot air in the exhaust and around the engine, plus the noise and the heat in the tyres, etc. It is this conversion process that makes the internal combustion engine, or the Otto cycle, so extraordinary. We take a small portable parcel of high grade fuel and drive for miles and miles leaving a large uncollectable stream of hot air in our wake.

If you just compress the air, all you can do is expand it again, less the losses. A 3hp compressor will give you enough air in an hour to run an engine for an hour but only at about 0.3hp. Unless you can compress it to about 10000psi that air will need a tank the size of a house to store it. And even super compressed to a portable size the high strength tank will weigh more than the bike.

I love new ideas and think about this stuff all the time but this second law of thermodynamics just keeps getting in the way !!!

Its a good idea stevetibb2000, but it has been done here is Aus already!

Compressed air used to run little carts around the markets carrying stuff. All day the people who work their are breathing noxious carbon monoxide due to the lpg powered forklifts going back and forth all day. So his little cart has a design very similar to the wankel rotary but is round instead out triangular shaped and runs for about 3hrs(from memory) on one tank of air.

Ill try to find a link to the show i saw it on.

Steve, Modern Marvels on the History Channel ran a spot on new vehicle designs a few months ago. I remember a quick blurb on a company in France that has produced (and want to produce more) a car that runs on compressed air. You might want to check it out.

    Forget compressed air.
Chrysler made a Indy car that they BANNED during testing about 15 years ago. It had an Indy-Spec-Legal motor that ran a generator. The generator fed power to all 4 wheel motors, AND to a flywheel. During braking, alot of the energy was recovered, not wasted, and fed into the flywheel while the engine was also feeding the flywheel.
The car shot out of the corners so fast the officials couldn't allow it.
The engine ran at a steady RPM and they wouldn't need to pit for fuel as much, also, the engine wasn't likely to blow up since the driver wasn't thrashing on it.

Apply this to a motorcycle- - run a 15 HP motor continuously, no gears, the 4 pound flywheel might even keep you from having to put your feet down during a red-light, then blast away silently, while getting 140 MPG!
    That would be different!

Check out the Air Car from India. Per the article compressed air is stored in carbon fiber tanks at a pressure of 4350 psi. It is said to be able to hit 68 MPH and have a range of 125 miles. Interesting...
