    Hey everyone

the last time I chimed in was last summer, thanks for the great advice back then.....

Again I would like to say that without experts and sites like this, people like me (if it aint rocket science, i'll try it) would be tossing in the monkey wrench and giving up i'm sure.

My most recent triumph was getting the bike started this past weekend after sitting for 7 months. I was having problems a few weeks ago trying to get it started, I read a bunch of info about starting here through other people's issues, I know I am due for a GOOD carb cleaning, coming up in a few weekends. I was talking to someone about it and they told me to try putting a little gas in the cylinders, I made sure the battery was charged good and sure enough she fired up after putting gas in the cylinder. The hair on my arms stood straight and yelled what the hell was that ;o)
He figures I may have had an air lock in the engine therefore gas was not being pulled in through carbs.... Is anyone here familiar with that scenario???

Thanks again for many great advices.... I look forward to rebuilding and restoring my bike for summer 2010......

I will add a picture to my signature soon....

    Lab, welcome back.
Air lock would only be possible if you had a stuck valve.
Quick check of the compression will eliminate this question.
Another thing, I'd avoid pouring gas into the cylinders, it can/will cause hydrolock (liquids don't like to compress) if you throw too much in there. Remember, 14:1 air/fuel mixture indicates the need to atomize the mixture. Puddled gas won't burn.
Use a can of starter fluid (and only a quick squirt) to verify combustion next time.
The solution to your problem is to pull and clean the carbs right off the bat.

The enrichment circuit in the carb bowls is evil and prevents the bike from getting fuel when starting. You must vanquish this evil by being able to squirt carb spray several feet via the enrichment circuit. See Gamuru's enrichment circuit thread in the FAQ Suggestion Section.
