I just bought myself a 1982 550 Maxim. The starter switch is in two pieces and unattached to the handlebar. The previous owner told me it needed to be rewired or changed out. The connections inside look good to me, but I could be wrong. My question is, how do I know for sure if it is shot? He also said that he had just rebuilt the carburetors and they just needed adjusted. I've worked on lots of cars but never a bike. I've ordered the Clymer manual and downloaded the digital manuals available on this site but, any suggestions or wisdom is greatly appreciated.
