I've been lurking around the forum for a few weeks and finally decided to jump in.

I was 14 years old in 1982 when I saw the XJ ad in CycleWorld magazine. I thought the red 550 Seca with the fairing and the swoosh stripe was about the coolest bike I had ever seen. When I spotted one on the side of the road for sale a few weeks ago, it all came back to me and I couldn't resist.

My hope is that I'll be able to do the bulk of the maintenance myself. I'm not much of a mechanic but I'm not afraid to try. I've purchased a Clymer guide and a shop manual already. Brake lines and clutch kit are on order along with an in-line fuel filter. The more I read here, the longer my to do list gets. I just added rear drum brake to that list.

Thanks all for the great forum and information.
