I just got a 86 xj 650. I am not familiar with this bike at all.
Do you put the oil in on the right side with the glass window and the cluch?
and do you fill it so it's at the top of the glass.
This bike has been chopped/bobbed and I really don't know what is stock or not. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.
    Any replys will help!

Yes. The engine and transmission/clutch are all one unit and share oil.

BE CAREFUL. With the bike on the CENTERSTAND, the oil level should be at the top of the sight glass with just a "bubble" showing, slightly above the marks even.

On the SIDEstand, there will be little or no oil showing in the window.

If due to your mods, you have no centerstand, you will have to hold the bike vertical for a few minutes then have someone take over the holding so you can check.
