Life has been really busy for me lately. Finally pulled my Maxim out of the garage yesterday, lubed cables, put battery in, did safety checks, turned key and she fired right up. My neighbor looked over and gave me a thumbs up - and then it happened - I got that big ass silly grin while listening to the ticka ticka of the engine and reflecting on how 6 years ago I knew very little about bikes. The seasons first ride provided a continuation of the afore mentioned big ass grin.

This website and the people here are absolutely priceless. If not for this community I would not have the knowledge of XJ's and the ability to properly maintain them.

    Thank YOU!

I agree. Ive had my 550 since it was brand new. About 12 years ago I quit riding it much because wasn't running well. Would only put a couple hundred miles a summer on it just to keep fresh gas and oil (its never seen a drop of alcohol as they still sell real gas locally).

Three summers ago I thought about selling it. After I found out what a respectable replacement would cost , and that this bike really was worth something, my wife said to put some money in it and fix it up. After all she said, I bought it while we were engaged. Plus she saw the price of new bikes....

Thanks to this site I now have it running really well again. Never thought I could do things like adjust valves, but this site is great!

Just is week I just ordered a new chain and sprockets from Chacal as I've put thousands of miles on it the last 2 summers.

Thanks to all in this forum for instructions and support, and Chacal for being a reliable parts source.
