I currently have my 82 XJ750J registered with the number on the frame, while trying to get insurance last night, I found out that it needs to be 17 letters/numbers long.

In checking the sticker that has the vin on it, I found out that over the years several numbers, etc are missing as I now see just paint.

I was looking to see if anyone can help me figure out the missing Info

I have what I know is the first 2 and the last 8, I'm missing the info for spots 3-7

the number on the frame has 15Rand the last 6 numbers of the VIN, so I'd assume the the 15R goes in it some where.

    Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED
    Andrew

I was told the same thing. They wouldn't believe me until I emailed digital photos of the VIN and photocopies of the title showing that indeed, the VIN was NOT 17 digits long...at which point, they took my word for it. Go figure.

The number is STAMPED right into the frame on the right hand side of the headset. Scratch-off the sticker and look for the engraving. Rub some chalk over it and you'll see it appear.

Additionally; the Engine Number should match the the final numbers of the VIN.

If you bought the bike and have a Title certificate to prove your bike is legally yours. The entire VIN is certianly on the Title Certificate.

I have the sticker on the left side, there is a partial number on the right side that is stamped in the frame, this also matches the number on my title and on the engine.

I called Geico, and they didn't have a problem with not having 17 numbers, they just put xxx's in the extra spaces and then hide them on the insurance cards

Payed a little bit more than progressive, but to save me the hassle of getting a 17 digit vin its worth it.
