you can bypass it with a bolt or a number of other ways.
chacal has the short lines you would need.
83 secas had the anti dive forks too, you might be looking at maxim forks

is it bad to bypass it ? do you have the part number by any chance?
are those a good upgrade ?

bad to bypass? i guess it depends on what your after, might look a little cleaner, two less lines to buy, brakes might be easier to bleed.
the forks aren't great if you don't bypass but their not bad if you do.
part #, i bypassed mine never looked it up.
good upgrade, there's a lot more too it, brake diameter and off set, calipers, axle, be much easier if you swapped the whole front end

i think it means randomxj2012 wants to put new brake lines on and wants to know what happens if he gets rid if the short anti-dive lines.
and if maxim forks will fit a seca.
    i think

If you put Maxim forks on a Seca the Seca fender won't fit correctly. (Something to keep in mind when considering the swap/sourcing parts.)

well actually i found a whole front end for 100 im not sure if its a maxim or a later seca or whatever but its the whole thing. but yea i want it to be easier to bleed brakes and save a little money when replacing line like polock said.

bigfitz youre a respected member what do you think about the swap or getting rid of the whole antidive shabang

I disconnected mine after servicing them and replaced the hydraulic section with some adjusters I made up.

The anti dive valve is in 2 parts. The top is just a hydraulic piston, and the bottom section is a valve that restricts compression dampening when brake pressure moves the top piston down.

Realistically you can just remove the top section instead of blocking it with a bolt.

Yes you can make a nice cover, but the adjustment idea (in retrospect) is not really needed.

    Brakes are YZF R6
    Speedo is Koso RX1N

I spend too much on my XJ, but life is like that.

If you get a Maxim fork set, you need Maxim calipers AND the smaller rotors. Your steering angle will be a bit slower as well. The bike will want to "stand up" in a turn or go to the outside of a turn, rather than hold it's line - by a SMALL amount.

dark what year is your seca ? i just noticed how your antidive units are on the front of the forks not the back like mine..

i wonder if you can just take the whole things off have a couple of covers made to cover where they originally bolted on and maybe a couple of new seals to prevent any leaks

My Seca is 81 but the front fork set up is from a XJ750P (western Aust Police version)

If you make blanking plates, it 'may' stiffen the compression dampening too much (haven't tested the theory, others may have), but that could be solved by making a passage between the two ports in the blanking plate.

I tried plates to block the the whole thing off and it pretty much locked the forks.
That experiment made a huge mess. :(
