While reassembling my engine yesterday, I went to reinstall the oil cooler and spin-on adapter. To my chagrin I realized that the M20X1.5X50 dental tubes I had ordered for the center pipe that goes in where the oil filter bolt used to go were actually M20X1.75X50. Further, I so far have been unable to find the extra M20X1.5.X40 tubes from the set I had initially ordered and used.

I had to destroy the M20X1.5.X40 tube when removing it (was held in with Loctite red) to be able to clear the frame when removing the engine, but I figured it would be a good opportunity to install the longer tubes, as the 40mm ones were a bit shorter than I would have liked.

Anyway, looking around, I can't find a source for these things other than China. McMaster doesn't even have anything close. Any ideas?

It's not a bike part. It's a custom part for my implementation of a an oil cooler that uses spin-on filters.

What are dental tubes? I am fitting the oil cooler adapter plate and bolt off a 900 Diversion, just need the machine shop to extend the threads a bit.

Dental tubes are pipes that are threaded on the outside.

We call them a close nipple where I'm from.
Ask Chacal. The spin-on oil filter kit he sells uses them, though the length might not be the same.

The Diversion oil cooler unit is the same l believe as the 900f so it will fit. I would have bought one from Len but would be too expensive. Close nipple is what they call them here too, just found them online.

Mine is a custom oil cooler and spin-on conversion. I have no use for the stock bolt or cover.

I think the difference is that close nipples usually have a hex bolster or similar, while dental tubes seem to always be one continuously threaded piece. I could use something with a bolster in the middle if it's pretty narrow and the overall length is at least 45mm... but I haven't found anything like that in online catalogs.

Some l see for sale are stainless steel which cannot be used in an aluminium crankcase.

A close nipple is threaded the whole way along.
    Like so,
    [IMG]

The one that Chacal supplies has a notch machined in one end so it can be installed.
His spin-on kits are made my a member here, so I'd think that it's be likely he could hook you up with what you need.

Well they can be, but removal will be....curse-inducing.
