My wife wants to get into drag bikes. I have an XJ650 Maxim that I really don't ride anymore. I've been looking for an excuse to chop it up, does anyone have any experience with this at all?

I would have to say that the power loss due to the shaft final drive means there really aren't a lot of shaft-drive dragbikes out there...

along fitz's line of thought the shaft drive is really hard to stretch and the yamaha engines are a pain in the rear to mod. Look into getting a kz1100 late 70's for making a drag bike there are a lot more parts out there for them like hot cams and over bore kits. You can make and honest 200 hp natrually asperated for around $1500 that's with cams, head work, carbs, and over bore. The bikes are also chan crive so stretching them is a lot easier.
