Hey there! Joined this site a few months ago and have found that everyone is not only welcoming but very knowledgable, so I figured I would throw out a question.
I got an '85 XJ700 Maxim...not the X... and I was wondering if anyone has put one on a dyno or knows the estimated stock horespower.
I would take any horsepower estimates from similar bikes..(a year or two newer or older...but 700cc).
Thanks and I'm looking forward to your experiences.
    Safe ridin,
    Tom

you cant really compare other bikes to the XJ of 85. most bikes put out a lot less power than these did.
a honda 700 shadow only made 63 horse.

My Maxim 700 made 80.1HP on the dyno the other week, which isn't too bad for a 23 year old bike I didn't think?! :D

According to the Maxim-X site, yes... for the 700. The 750X puts out 90.

I would love to see what that does after a few turns of a screw here and there!

I have never seen a liquid cooled and air cooled model of the same cc have the same HP rating in any application. I don't believe they are the same rating even tho thats all you can find on the net. For example look at snowmobiles a fan cooled 440cc sled puts out maybe 37-40HP a liquid cooled same 440cc sled can push 80+ depending on the compresion and port timing. I find it hard to believe yamaha would put the effort to add 3 valves per cylinder, the radiator, fan, and tubing to make a bike heavier with the same HP as a air cooled bike. It wouldn't make sense in either business or performance

After I did the dyno shootout day with my club I had trouble finding out whet the Maxim X's HP was until I found this thread, so would be interested to see if the water cooled figure is correct! :)

the yamaha 1985/86 fz700 which shares the same bore and stroke, same head design with 5 valves but has straighter ports and a factory 4 to 1 exhaust is rated at 102HP I believe. I could believe the 86 for the liquid but mthe air should be a little less. everywhere I have looked they say they are rated the same which as I stated makes no sense.
