apes

So i've been tossing the idea around of putting some 12" apes on my bike. I think it would be just were I want but i have only a dream of what it would look like. Has anyone ever done this, and if so could you post a picture to help with my decision.

I think apes on an xj defeats the point of having an xj

I put 15s on mine. You can see what its looks like by clicking this link below in your browser. Other folks do have 12s on here, search the forums for apes and you'll find something.

I like the height, they put my hands level and I think its more comfortable. Others disagree, but everyone likes a different flavor ya know.

Anyone who says APES suck is a Friggin Idiot. Especially at only 12" inches. at 12" they are should height, now I gaurantee that when you drive a car and put your hand on the top of the steering wheel your arm is SHOULDER height. It's more comfrotable and much more normal. People are jack@ss's. They are no less safe than any other handlebar. I dont have them on my XJ but I do my Victory bagger, and I've got 20" apes, with 6" risers. and man they dont ride any differnt then my stock bars did.

 

yes rode my buddies fatboy with 18 inch apes, that was to0 tall but i liked it. As far as defeating the point about having an xj, the one thing i love about these bikes is you can easily make them whatever you want whether its bobbed out with 15" apes or a stripped down caf'e racer anyone can make it the bike that represents them. my year bike came with two piece bars. I've rotated them forward and gave them a more mini ape look then the old man look. But i've rode my friends bike and loved it. I don't want huge apes but i would like big enough to level our my arms like they are when im in my truck.

 

Like ya said, opinions and arseholes... that's mine. IMO, apes are better suited to mid range, strait line cruising on a bike with more subdued power characteristics (read as: V-twin) than our bitchen inline 4's.

Above all (of course) do what YOU want with your bike and watch out for bees in your armpits.

Now just for the record im not wanting to put some huge a$$ apes on it. 12" is what im thinking, which is just little taller then what I have now. I don't like the xj's with the 15+ apes(JMO).... And i would love to have a nice v twin to put a nice set of apes on but paying 1000 bucks a month just for college stuff doesn't leave much room for play. I have been stripping, chopping, and painting my bike. Its all flat black. If you guys are at all framiliar with the HD cross bones thats the look im going for.
