Let me preface this post by saying that I have no commercial or financial interest in Olympia Moto Sports. I don't sell their gear or own stock in their parent company, nor do I know anyone who does. I just thought I'd give them an unsolicited plug here, because I am always pleasantly surprised these days when a product for which I lay out my hard-earned cash exceeds my expectations.
Such is the the case with the Olympia Phantom one-piece suit. I like jumpers in nasty weather, because, in my experience, they tend keep the wind, rain and cold out better than two-piece setups, all things being equal. For the last five years, I've been riding the off-season months in an Aerostich Roadcrafter, for which I paid ridiculous money. The 'Stich was a good suit in many ways (nicely designed, comfortable after break-in, good armour, great customer service), but it was never truly waterproof (especially around the all-important crotch area), and there was always an unwanted jet of cold air somewhere that made longer rides in chilly and/or wet conditions unpleasant. As the suit got older, these problems only got worse, so I decided to replace it this year.
After some on-line research and discussions with other riders, I opted for the Olympia Phantom suit, and I couldn't be happier. This rig is out-of-the-box comfortable, completely weatherproof (bone dry, impervious to wind, and plenty warm, even at high speeds on a naked bike), and the armour is comfortably and securely held in all the places it needs to be. Pockets are plentiful and well placed, and all of the zips and fasteners are high quality and function flawlessly.
All of this for less than half the price of a new Roadcrafter? It's a no-brainer, as far as I'm concerned. Further proof that you don't always get what you pay for.
