This may be a "no-brainer" but it may be a expensive lesson if I get it wrong, so any help on this would be appreciated.
I have the chance to buy a "working" set of carbs for about a $100, good right? yeah GREAT!, unless they don't fit.
    Thanks in advance

All the 750's share the same Hitachi HSC32 carbs.
The 650's use them as well, but with different jets and needles.

Well, this is my 1st bike (just felt that I needed to state that), the guy I got it from, got it from someone else, had it about a week then traded me for a boat, said that the carbs "probably needed to be cleaned or rebuilt", I having no clue (remember, 1st bike) went to a mechanic at work who does all of that stuff on his bike, to clean them, he took them apart and noticed that one piece was bent, from where someone tried to use another part that didn't fit (obviously from some other make), and I need a "diaphragm" something because "gas was in the seal", and there is a very small crack in the #4 body
I priced the OEM parts at Yamaha and Boats.net (surprisingly enough) and the 3 pieces that I need to complete my carbs are about $200 and another $2?? to replace the body, so I figured that buying another set would give me the extra parts that I need.

that price looks off. I ordered a ton of carb parts from Chacal to completely rebuild my carbs (everything except for new diaphrams, pilot screws, floats and enrichment valves), PLUS a ton of tools for less then that. I even won an ebay auction for 50$ for a crappy rack of carbs that I could strip for parts (2 of my bodies were busted); but honestly Chacal sells those too.

I tell you what, I never opened a carb in my life - and I've been completely rebuilding this set - you gain a better appreciation for the whole system, plus if it breaks you know how to fix it. Even the new set you are buying could probably use a good cleaning etc....

My advice would be if you ahve the time, look at the howto's here, strip down your own carbs, contact Chacal get some parts, and even an ebay auction for spares (or buy some spare parts from some of us that have left overs from our rebuilds), and go to town. Its not a 'instant gratification', but its definatly a better kind of gratification!

This doesn't even touch on the tuning of it ;-P
