hey all, my xj maxim x back break hasn't worked right since i purchased the bike a couple of years ago. More often than not when i apply the back break it half locks up and if i'm comming to a stop at some lights or something i can actually feel it slightly sticking on, just a little drag and you have to keep taping to foot lever to make it release. any suggestions as to what this might be and any remediation techniques?

STOP riding the bike ! you may have a delaminating brake shoe.
Pull the rear tire-rim. (it's not that hard)
The friction material should be securely glued.
The cam lever should rotate freely without sticking.
RickCoMatic has a good post about going thru the rear brake.

XJ rear brakes DO eventually fail. Tell us what you find.

Good advice. Definitely quit riding it until you can at least look in there. Could just be gummed/rusted/corroded or a brake shoe could be coming apart or something else could be broken. Whatever it is, it ISN'T safe the way it is.
