Anybody have any suggestions/sources for a backrest for my maxim? Currently has stock grab bar but my 11yr old son (not to mention the Mrs.) would feel a little more comfy & safe if I could add something more, either padded or sissy bar style.

P.S. Awesome site by the way, I've been finding all kinds of answers to my questions for the last little while and so just signed up.

    Welcome to XJbikes!

Ebay my friend, Ebay. Or your favorite auction site.

Short of lucking into one, word of mouth, or building one, that's about the best way to find them for our bikes.

If you do a search, you may find one of the members who made one using 1" square stock, bent to fit the stock mounting holes. There are tons of pads on ebay that would work on it too.

I just bought a "universal" type of backrest and used easily available hardware to fit it to my Seca. If you do a search under "DIY Seca Backrest" you should find the post with the parts list and directions.
I originally took measurements, and tried to find one on eBay that would mate right up. But everyone seems to be bidding on those, and I would've paid around $100 for a decent one. The "universal" type backrests however go CHEAP (I picked up 1 like new for $1.00 plus shipping!) and with a little ingenuity, work just great. Plus they look a lot more "factory" than making one out of square tube stock.
