First bike i've owned love it. I've had a few problems with it to begin. Had carbs cleaned ran it for about an hour then it started backfiring and and reving itself up to 4,000 rpms. checked the carbs #2 carb was leaking gas through the air filter. Finally got it to stop by tapping the bowl. After that i took off and when i hit the brakes all my lights would go very dim and start backfiring again..Please any help would be great. Again I'm new to motorcycles but mechanically inclined. Thank you

Congrats on your first bike . Motorcycle batteries are small and these bikes dont really make any juice to till about 2200 rpm so if you are idling with the headlight on for a short period of time say half hour or so depends on your battery the battery will start to run down and the coils will stop firing. Put a charge on the battery use a trickle charge for bikes or no more than 2 amp or less if your charger has a lower setting but keep an eye on it or it will boil the water right out of it. If this does not do it let us know and we can tell you how to test charging system and which wires to look at for shorts. Have you checked rear brake shoes for de-lamination yet? If you havent dont ride it untill you do

Your carbs are not clean - what caused the fuel in the airbox was a stuck float - whoever you had clean it didn't do it properly. Sorry to say but those need to come off and get cleaned properly.

For the alternator some things I found:
1 - check the brush length - they're marked for the minimum which is 11 or 12 mm - replace if needed.
2 - polish the rings of the rotor -- I had real problems with power until I did this. Cleaned them with 800 grit sandpaper (vacuum the dust) then polished with a dremel and some metal polish. Works great now, much less dimming.

Susspended there are a number of things that could cause this for example an engine tends to speed up when it runs lean as in runs out of fuel, so say I tell you that the gas cap has a vent in it and could be plugged causing the fuel to almost stop flowing so it cant keep up with your running engine but it sits for a while and fills the bowls and fires off and runs for a while then starts to backfire rev up then die. Dont run your bike for long periods of time without a fan blowing on it. So hows the battery
