Anyone ever tried to remove rust from exhaust and shine up the chrome with BKF??
I wonder if its good for the pipes. Its non-phosphourus unlike Coca-Cola

I just discovered a great product for cleaning gunk off of the muffler on my wife's GSXF 750. Not sure how it would do on rust but man did it ever take off the burnt on rubber boot marks in a hurry.
It is the cleaner designed for gas fireplace glass. It will not scratch, takes off anything that resembles exhaust residue and is cheap compared to most of the specialized chrome products I have bought.
An 8oz bottle should last a long time.

Mine is made by Imperial and is simply called Gas Fireplace Glass Cleaner.

Amazing how one product designed for something completely different can work so well.

I used my air grinder with a very fine soft wire wheel, then a little chrome polish. They were bad and look OK now.

Thank you. They are still far from perfect; they match the bike and owner!!

I've been using AutoSol for years, to polish the ALUMINUM on my Norton. Gotta be careful using it on chrome it is right on the edge of being too abrasive... However, for badly rusted/nasty chrome it will work quite well; and you can use it to CAREFULLY polish scratches out of "nicer" chrome.

Nice job Tman! That looks great! My pipes look almsot like yours. Just a little worse. Maybe my neighbor will help me do that when we paint the bike. My plan was to clean the exhaust while I wait for the paint to dry, soooo, kill two birds with one Maxim

I did try BKF on some stuff. Didn't appear to do any damage. Matter of fact, it didn't appear to do anything. So, I dropped it for Mother's Chrome Polish. That works pretty well. For aluminum, I use a combination of 1000-2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and Mother's Billet Polish. However, I don't have as much to do as the other XJ's.

I made the paste with it and put a small test patch on pipe 3. It ate the Majority of the bad rust away as I scrubbed it with Tin Foil. I might jsut use it to just go over the pipes till I can soak them in Diet Coke. We'll see. I'll post results

Im using a product I found at BiMart called Wright's Brass Polish and a 'green meanie' its taken everything off but the worst of the rust and as a bonus, you dont have to rub that hard.

Used BKF today with the pipes still on the bike.
Used Green Meanies and some tin foil and a lot of elbow grease. Its not 100% better, but now the blue and chrome show through. Looks much much better. Gonna do it one more time with Diet coke when I get a new paint job. I wont be able to ride for a day or two so i figured I'll take the headers off and soak em for a couple hours and scrub them again.
    Thanks guys!

Diet pepsi and aluminium foil cleaned the heck out of the front brake line supports.
I soaked for 5 days and the rust just slid off.
I soaked for 3 more days and what didn't come off before did.
    look great.
