I traded out my speedometer/tach assembly because was so yellowed that it was very hard to see if anything was being displayed. The replacement is much better and I see now that it a "batt" message is showing. After some research here I see that I can get a bypass kit which I have contacted chacal about. There is a white wire with a red tracer that someone has hooked up to the input side of the starter solenoid. The wire goes straight from there into the harness. There is no sensor in the battery. The battery is new and charges at 14.3 volts around 3000 rpm. Will it hurt anything to ride it like this or should I unhook it until I get a kit? Thanks for any input. XJ750 Maxim.

You can ride with no issue , it is the display for battery electolight level if you have a sealed battery you won't use this . Two 2.2 ohm resistors soldered together and wired in will fix this.

Thanks for your help. It's not a sealed battery. Sometimes it's a little frustrating to see what someone else has played with and not knowing what the reason was.

Hooking the sensor wire up to a constant 12 volts just keeps the warning from tripping. It won't tell you anything about the battery though.

Thanks k-moe. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to hurt something by riding it this way because that would be my luck.
