Does anyone know how to perform a compression test on the bench? I have an engine with no carbs attached, and want to see what the compression is. Do I have to blank the carb intakes? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you don't have the carbs installed, you will be just fine. Just be sure not to get dirt and/or such near the intake when you run your tests. Ordinarily you would crack the throttle WOT when testing to allow the cylinder to "breath" as much air as it can for a good reading.
Just clean the engine off completely (don't want any un-desired bits getting sucked in) and perform your tests.
And be sure there is oil in it! I've heard of folks pulling drained engines and forgetting that little detail.
