I've read kiwixj750's bench sync guide. I get the process and end goal, but can not seem to get the valves open equal amounts. I can get 2-3-4 open somewhat equally, but 1 is shut completely. Adjusting any one valve seems to affect the others too much. it's like an evil game of whack-a-mole.

All of the valves closed before I put the carbs back on the rack.

    Any ideas?

If 1 is shut completely - it is jacking the others open.
You start by raising the "idle" so #3 is open, and fiddle with the screws until 1,2,&4 are open.

Make sure 1,2&4 are open FURTHER than #3

then, adjust #3 onto your "test item" I prefer 2 strips of printer paper which is 0.010 inch thick and very flexible.

Close the "idle" so #3 just touches the paper, but you can pull it thru and feel an amount of "drag"

Adjust #4 to the same "drag feel"

    Adjust #2

finally, adjust #1. #1 leans against #2 which leans against #3, and these have to be adjusted IN ORDER or you will get lost.

Your carbs are now set to a reasonably good idle.
