best way to store CV carb parts like diaphragms?

    I'm breaking down my "parts rack" to use some bits on my other carbs and I wonder what would be the best way to store parts like the piston/diaphragm assemblies. Is armor-all acceptable on diaphragm rubber? If I use armor-all and then seal them in say, ziploc bags, will the moisture in the AA cause corrosion on the piston? I'm concerned that if I simply put them in something like a cardboard box they'll dry out.

    Good question. I have two racks doing the same duty.
    Right now I just lay them in a plastic shoebox that you can get at the dollar store and Target.
    I have a stack of these shoe boxes. Each separate carb has its own box.
    I have a collection of the enrichment plunger grommets soaking in ArmorAll in a Ziplock bag semi-permanently.

    I've never stored them, but the way I see it they probably have 3 enemies:

    - Ultra Violet light
    - Heat
    - Ozone

    Ball jar in Mother's root cellar should be pretty good.

    i smear Dow Corning 111 silicone compound on the diaphragm and put it back in the carb
    i put it back in the carb because that protects it's shape
    armor-all seems to go away after a while
    the 111 is the same as the spark plug boot grease in the little packets at part store counters, i think, looks and feels the same anyhow

    I keep all mine installed in the spare carb bodies.
    I had an XV700 that I left them out on the bench for 20 plus days in the garage while working n it. They shrunk! I had a hard time getting them re-seated back into the carb body groove.

    Keeping them lubed in a sealed plastic bag sounds like it should keep them supple.

    I can't put the one set back because I stole the HATS, and won't have any to put back for a while. This is my "parts" rack; I also have a SPARE rack that does stay assembled. Hmmm... The shrinkage thing concerns me...

    Fitz, store them in the bodies, make a 'hat' from stiff cardboard & wrap the whole thing in shrink wrap.

    Great minds think alike, I was gonna use a chunk of sheet styrene. Now I only have to worry about three. The PO of the carbs (not one of my bikes, thankfully) cranked the hat down on one when it was NO WHERE NEAR in the correct position, the little tab was about 90 deg out of place. Wrecked about 2/3 of the lip on that one.

    Here's something ironic: On this bank of carbs, which aren't too bad except they're pretty varnished up, 3 of the slides are gummed in place. They will move SLOWLY if pried on. The 4th one passes the "clunk" test.
