    Here's the deal.

I got a replacement OEM exhaust for my Maxim-X: Mufflers and collector. Header pipes I have are fine. The collector I already had was fine but the mufflers came with the collector.

The problem I am running into is that the mufflers have joined themselves to the collector. There is solid metal there, but they have surface rusted together. I have been applying various penetrating oils periodically for months and have had no success getting them apart.

Now, I could just leave them as a unit and hook things up, however, I have found it next to impossible to get the collector on to the headers with headers attached to the bike, if I attached the headers to the collector, I can't get the header pipes attached to the bike. Part of the issues is that half of the pipe header bolts are stuck in the bike with the nut part having screwed off and half of them come off as basically a single bolt.

Somehow I have to a) get the mufflers off of the collector and/or B) get the header pipe bolts out of the block so that it becomes possible to get this all assembled. Proper assembly order would also be highly appreciated.

A big part of the challenge with the mufflers is: rotational force is required: how to solidly grip the muffler so I can turn the collector around it or vice versa, without tearing apart the chrome or crushing the muffler itself?

The header bolts are a "routine" issue here, so if anyone has a good idea as to how to get the bolts left out without them shearing off, I'd love to hear it.

    Thankis

Try using two nuts on the bolts that are in the engine. Use two wrenches and riff em together then try unscrewing the bolt turning the nut closest to the engine. Keep the nuts close to the engine. If possable use the two wrenches together. DON'T BRAKE THE STUD !

    KROIL. http://www.kanolabs.com/google/

Worked for me when every other penetrant on the market failed miserably.

Recommended by another forum member, it finally allowed me to get my rusted-in fork caps loose.

THIS STUFF WORKS when nothing else will.
