The other day I wrote a question regarding the exhaust collar. Well, I figured out by the responses that I was asking about the wrong part.

The new exhaust system that I have did not come with what Yamaha is calling a large nut. The nut is a piece of metal that has two holes in it which the bolts from the exhaust go through to clamp the exhaust to the motor. I cannot get them off of the old pipes without cutting the pipes.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do (besides by new ones as I am getting VERY low on my motorepair fund) to remvoe these "nusts"?

Ya know - I still think we're talking about the same part here. Could you do us a favour and take a picture of what we're talking about? That should clear everything up, and give us a much better idea.

I think Altus is right, it is the same part. Your dealing with an aftermarket flange. It attempts to do the job of the exhaust collar (not very well unless you spent some serious cash). Short of cutting the pipe in two, have a local machine shop mill some flanges up for you out of a material of your choosing (I recomment 316 stainless).
