I'm always thinking about goofy things to do with my bike.
On Monday, while changing the oil, I figured there's plenty of space below where the radiator is. Enough so that a bigger one should/could have been fitted.
Has anyone replaced their stock radiator with a larger one?
Pros, cons, cost, what parts, mounting?

    You mean oil cooler?

WHY? In the USA, Yamaha didn't see fit to equip our bikes with oil coolers. I'm gonna make the rash assumption that there was some engineering involved in deciding on the correct size for the intended amount of cooling, etc., and the effect on oil volume plus I'm sure there are a hundred other factors I can't even imagine. Why try to "out-engineer" Yamaha on this one?

To go along with this, the air/oil-cooled Suzuki Bandit had an oil cooler about the same size and had 1200cc displacement.

I think the OEM cooler is the correct size, but you could always play around with a thermostatic valve so the oil would be at the correct temperature when it was sent to the cooler, or a thermostatically-controlled aux fan for real hot days when you are caught in traffic. Or not...

American-market bikes don't have oil coolers...

You mean American-market XJs. Lots of other bikes were/are sold here with oil coolers.

I remember the XS11 guys testing their "factory option oil cooler" against just the engine fins. Testing done in southern California. IIRC, the difference was about 2 degrees. Our engines are pretty out in the open, seems like they do just fine stock. And if it ain't broke, why fix it?

If you somehow get your oil too "cold" - it won't lubricate as well.
I think the 900's had coolers because they effectively had the same fin area as the 650, and made 25 more Horsepower. And their cooler was larger than the Turbo bike's.

My 750 came with a cooler, but it also came with factory chrome and custom paint.

Well Fitz, I did not know the fact that American bikes came without oil coolers.
I may have to look at the fan idea instead, possibly one that starts operating once speed fall under a set threshold..
