So my friend was looking for a small bike just to get around town with. He came across a 1966 yamaha twin 100 but the said it sold and now he's look at this...

    https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/mcy/4389127130.html

I NO NOTHING about these bike. I told him to start at 500$ and see what he says. The worst he can say is no!

I was just looking for some info that anyone here might have.

He said he talked to the guy and the bike has 8 gears. Is that normal or something custom or from a different bike?

    Thanks
    Jim.

My uncle had one of those when I was a teen. It was yellow and a little newer than that one. I used to ride the dirt roads around their house on it. It was quite fun for trail riding...not sure how it would be on the road with traffic tho.

As far as the 8 gears: it has a high/low selector with 4 gears each. So actually it's a 4 speed. Low gearing for off-road, high gearing on road.

Not sure what they're worth but considering I didn't pay more than $900 for either of my bikes, I don't think I'd pay more than $400 for it. But that's just my opinion.

I have owned several of these small cc bikes and to be honest with you I am glad I don't own them anymore... I personally think that they are even more dangerous because they don't have the pwer to get you out of hairy situations and because they are not seen as well by other drivers. I would try and talk your friend into at least a 400 cc bike. Just my 2 cents.
