Okay. I know that i am a fountain of ignorance, but this is an ask i have to make. I fixed my idling issue, i am very happy about that, thank you gentleman.; but the new issue i am running into is that i will engage the clutch, shift down to first, and the bike lurches a bit and dies. I have tried it while holding small pressure on the throttle and it still dies. I am waiting on a clutch cable so my shifter is currently a vise grip, as im only field riding it to become familiar im not too concerned. Should i wait on my cable or is there something im doing wrong? Im a decent mechanic but new to motorcycle riding.

Check for a sticky kick stand switch.

Clean and lube the plunger on the switch. It's low to the ground and gets a lot crud in it.

is the neutral light comming on, ?
if you dont have a clutch cable on, then that is the problem.
the bike will die when shifted into gear, if the clutch is not disengaged, there is a switch on the clutch lever
