In shifting from one gear to another when the engine is warm when I close the throttle the rpm does not fall back quickly as it should. The rpm only falls a little when I close the throttle and takes several seconds to fall enough to make shifting not much fun at all. Does any one know what would cause this? I know it is probably a carb issue but any ideas would help.

    Not "probably."

Get your valves in spec; clean, service and then adjust the carbs as above.
