Bike was tipped, now it wont start...

    My son tipped my bike over today, he's fine.
    Bike however....

    Break lever is bent up

    and theres some gas leaking out of the air box.

    Started, one cylinder is not running right though.
    Left it for about 2 hrs, tried to start again and now will not start at all.
    Battery is fine, lights are all fine and working properly....
    Thoughts?

    Mine tipped over in the rain the other day.(parked it in the dirt) it didn't want to start back up again. I ended up just giving it a blast if starting fluid, and it seems to be working now.

    You should check your oil and make sure it doesn't have any gas in it though.

    thanks for the reply. and I should mention that there is spark.
    I just checked the oil and yes indeed it does smell like gas.

    ok, got some oil and a filter going to change that out today.
    If I had the stock exhaust, would I still have to remove it to change the oil?
    Mine had a 4to1 when I got it and I haven't swapped it for anything....

    No you don't need to take off the stock exhaust

    Ok, did the oil and filter change.
    There seemed to be quite a bit of gas in the oil.

    From the look of the head, I am thinking I'll need to do all the gaskets too.
    Certainly looks like some leakage is happening....

    I put a litre in the bike and I'm going to check out what that oil is like tomorrow.
    If theres still gas present, could it be a carb issue?

    When one of these bikes gets knocked over, the only gas that could go into the engine is just what's in the carbs, unless the petcock got put in the "PRI" position. It is advisable to pull the spark plugs from the side that was next to the ground. If gasoline fills a cylinder that is coming up on compression, you might end up with a bent connecting rod, because a liquid can't be compressed.

    So should I pull the carbs after checking the plugs?
    Perhaps it's time to do that carb rebuild?
    From what I've read so far is that usually gas in the oil is from malfunctioning carbs...

    If your still getting gas in the oil, it usually means sticking floats and a leaky petcock

    Don't forget all of the gas in fuel rail and line/filter after the petcock. It's a little more than just what's in the carbs, however, so if you have a lot of gas in the oil or just for the heck of it, verify the petcock if functioning properly.
