Is it just me - or are bike shops not stocking grips for 7/8" bars anymore?

I've been to 3 shops around here in the last week looking to replace my grips, and of those only ONE had something in 7/8" in stock - exactly ONE set of cheapo "foam N chrome" grips - which, coincidentally, are the exact grips I'm looking to replace.

Okay - sorry - all three did have cheap, small diameter, rubber, fancy colours, open-ended grips for sportbikes with 7/8" bars.

EVERYTHING else they had in stock was all for 1" bars. But boy - if you've got 1" bars did they ever have a selection there!

Okay I know you can still order tons of stuff from the catalogues, but what the hell? When did 7/8" bars fall out of favour?

Okay - better now. Question - anyone have the Kuryakyn ISO grips on their XJ? Either the standard ones or the flame ones? Just wondering if they're really worth the ~$90 Canadian to get them....

I like the small thickness rubber. I got some that are "gel", whatever that means. They don't feel like gel.

I think they offer some advantages:

*Better feel because my hand fits better around them than the large foam grips.
*Better traction - can't beat rough rubber with tread.
*Smaller reach to the levers. This played a large part in reducing my hand fatigue.

I have the K Iso grips on my Sportser and I love them. I have the one that has the little throttle rocket thing on the right one. It really helps to take pressure off the wrist on long rides.

Grips cost from $7 to $25. The big aluminum ones with rubber inserts are the $25. I actually am toying with the idea of making some with a lathe. but I will prolly start out with a GS500.
    Cool.
