So the other day I was fixing a merc c class clutch master (what a pig!) and my mate mentioned his son had bought a Blata mini quadard cheap from a schoolmate who couldn't get it running after an engine rebuild. He dropped it off last night & I carried it upstairs to the living room (that's how small it is! must weigh all of 40lbs) and stripped the thing down to find out the lad trapped the head gasket when he assembled it & lost all compression, no wonder it didn't run!

So looks like his son got a bargain, it's got a brand new stroked crank & big bore kit that take it up to, my guess, 65-70cc. a nice expansion chamber and an adjustable centrifugal clutch with new linings. I just finished tearing the whole thing down & rebuilding/going through it to make sure it's safe.

Just about to mix some 50:1 and try a test fire, was wondering if anyone else has played with minibikes or quads like this before?

what kind of engine is it? they run Zenoah engines without a base gasket to up the compression ratio

It's a genuine Blata set of cases, internals are BZM "gold" crank & unknown big-bore top end kit.

It's got a copper 0.8mm base gasket & it's staying, already killed the plastic pull-starter dogs just in the time took to prime the cases & get a quick 15 second fire up out of it so got plenty compression for now! 8O I'd say from how it feels that it's running at least 15:1 comp ratio (blisters on 1st 2 fingers of right hand say so...) Isn't removing the base gasket more to advance the port timing, mostly people seem to fit 2 H/G's to bring the comp back in check afterwards? (dunno bout Zenoah tho')

So an all-metal starter is on his list along with plugs for chopping & told him to budget for new jets (and I'll bore out the tiny Dellorto 14/12 to 14mm for now, maybe get a carb off say maybe a KX80 or similar later on... And I've adjusted my mixture to 25:1 for running in purposes, 50 was the "performance spec"!
In the few seconds I ran it before I figured I'd better stop smoking out the house  it felt like it's gonna fly when it's tuned properly, very much "angry-wasp"...
