Don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. Has been sitting; hasn't been plated since 07; may be a project or may part out. Popped up on CL, just 3 miles from my house so I went and looked at it. Made room in my garage and parked it next to the XJ for now.

Nice, looks like a 1979 XS1100 with the touring package. Does it run?

    Yes it's a '79 XS Eleven Special. 16900 miles.
Not running. No battery. But the Gas tank isn't rusted inside, carb boots aren't cracked, seat is not torn. Has a built-in AM/FM/CB and full touring gear including footboards and heel to toe shifters etc. All I know for now is that the Motor is not seized and it clicks thru all the gears.
I figured I would hook up a battery, compression test, drain the carb bowls, to try to start it etc. and if I can't get her going I may part it out.
I wasn't really looking for another bike but Craigslist made me do it

It is too nice to part out, please don't do that. Spend some time and get it running then sell it if you need to. Go ahead and take the carbs out and clean them it will save you some time. If the bike has not run in a few years it will need it anyway.

Well I've drained the 5+ quarts of oil/gas mix from the engine and tried to crank it over by jumping from a marine battery. It turns over weakly like the engine is tight or the battery is wimpy. Next time i have time to fiddle with it I'll get some oil in it and do a compression test.
I guess I'll start looking at xs forums, too.

Even if you decide to not go down the resto road i know there is someone out there with the love for a full dress xs that would love to give it a good home . Too many folks parting out the classics or doing the bobber mods ....I feel it is a shame to destroy a piece of history

I can see cutting up a neglected rust bucket but this one is complete with real potential

Yeah Elkhaven, I don't like to see good stock bikes chopped into them ugly bobbers either. (But I know some folks really like that look.) Parting this out would be plan "B" if the bike has a junk motor or if I get in over my head and can't sell it complete.

Go the full CPR route. Put Kroil or PB down each plug hole, make sure the battery is full, change the oil, make sure it is getting good clean fuel, check compression..good? Then smile and encourage the old XS and try for ignition. I agree that's no 'part-out.'
