    This from the book:

    Could anyone please elaborate?
The whole thing moves in and out a bit, and there's what looks like a big plastic c clip adjacent to the cylinder body but I can't get it to pop out. There is also a little boot over most of the cable with little flats molded into it, and a metal collar around it. I removed the collar and can move the boot a little but I'm not sure if yanking it off would remove the boot alone, exposing the connector, or rip the wires in the process.

there are 1 or 2 holes in the perch you press in the tabs on the switch and it pops right out

Did you look under the brake lever perch? There is a hole there. Put a paperclip in it and push, then pull on the base of the switch. Based on your description of moving the collar, your switch is broken.

Thank you guys. I'm glad stopped and asked. I got my brake off, now to go through it. The light switch works, I may do something to tighten up the retaining plastic though. Think I should blast it with contact cleaner and grease the tip before it goes back in?

dry-film lube, so as to not attract more dirt.
