My brake lights are not working properly. And, when trying to figure out what is going on with them, I ran into something that I'm curious about. There are two dual filament bulbs and when the tail light is on, both filaments are lit up. It was my understanding that one of the filaments was the brake light and would only come on when I pressed on the brakes.

Is this correct? And, any ideas on why both filaments are lit up when the brakes are not applied?

    Thanks,
    Christy

Smells like the Switch is stuck on.
    I'd check that.

thanks rick, before i saw any posts, i followed the wiring to check the switches and the rear brake switch was stuck open, seems like the little piston type thing is bent and it won't move well. will have to replace it or leave it disconnected at this point.

Unplug the Switch and undo the Spring and take that Switch out and give it a thorough cleaning.

Spray it with Electric Parts Cleaner.
Lube the moving part with waterproof grease.

    Test it.
If it acts like a switch, again ... use it.
