I ordered new brake pads for my 82 xj1100j for the rear. Here is the link,
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-XJ1100-J ... 6377007704

Got them in today and the pads are sloped opposite direction of the ones I took off. Checked on bikemaster.com and the part number is correct that they sent me.
Am I missing something because when I put these new pads on the mounting bolt doesn't line up with the caliper and mount correctly and only the thick edges are touching the rotor.
Please help I hate to miss the holiday weekend riding.

You have the the wrong pads. The ones they sent you are for the Left front for a xs1100. The xs11 right front and xj11 rear are the same pads. Most likley they were put in the wrong box then sold to you.

The back of the pads have the same number as the box also printed on them.

Can you post a pic of the caliper and pads? The inner pad should be thick at the bottom and the outside pad is thick at the top.

I looked closley at those pads , they are tapered in the wrong direction. The part # is from BikeMaster and they list it for XJ11 rear. But they are wrong.
PM Chacal he can get the right ones.

If you really need to ride, you could quickly re-shape and re-contour them on your driveway, if the issue is a reversed leading taper. The material scrubs away quickly against concrete.

This would ruin your ability to get a refund, but not ruin your weekend.

That's an excellent idea that I did tonight. They had already denied me a refund saying that since I had "mounted them on the vehicle they were my problem now".
Now I ran into the the problem while bleeding the brakes the plunger will not come back down out of the master cylinder unless I push the piston in on the caliper. I took everything a part and recleaned it, everything was rebuilt with kits back last fall. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Smells like you have to overhaul the Caliper.
Most-likely crud built-up in the Caliper Main Seal Channel.
Crud in the Channel makes the Caliper Seal "Out-of-round" and the Piston binds.

You'll have to remove the Calipers.
    Remove the Pistons.
Scrape out the foreign matter down to bare aluminum.
    Clean the Caliper
    Clean the Piston
    Refinish and lube Sliding Parts.

    Install NEW Caliper Seals.
Lube the Seals and Piston with Fresh, Clean Brake Fluid during reassembly.
    Install NEW Brake Pads.

    Editors Note:
I would be ashamed to admit I had Jury-rigged and Bastardized a New set of Brake Pads by "Scraping them on a Sidewalk'" and then installing them on the Bike ... risking YOUR Life ... and, ... Everybody else's because you did a Stupid-Hillbilly Hack-Job on your Brakes!

In this Forum, ... we are NOT supposed to render advice such as that.

    Use the Correct Parts
Even properly machined Brake Pads will not be at be at maximum efficiency until the Pad Surface becomes "Bedded-In"

Pads scraped on a Sidewalk might get them to fit.
But, ... they ain't going to get you to STOP!

    Yeah, no kidding.

DO NOT try to "reshape" the pads, especially by scraping them on the sidewalk. Just bite the bullet and get the correct pads. Your life could depend on it.

I disassembled the back caliper and cleaned it but was completely clean from the rebuild I did back in the fall. This brake system has gave me nothing but trouble since I've had this PIA bike.
