What, and where is the "little pressure seal" in the master cylinder. I've been bleeding my front brakes on my 85 xj700 for a week! I've gone through at least a qt. of brake fluid, and getting no pressure at all. I've bled other bikes with success in the past, but no success on this one. Yet! Thanks for any help offered.

Did you rebuild your master cylinder?

No, I didn't. All I did was try to replace a brake line. The brakes worked fine before I did it. I get fluid through the lines. Just no pressure. I've read dozens of posts, and see that my particular bike had the worst brakes to bleed.

The master cylinder is 30+ years old and will likely fail soon anyway. Get a rebuild kit. Install the mew parts. With the rebuilt master on the bike bleed it at the first banjo union before bleeding the rest of the system. As a final step I like to use a vibratory sander to work any bubbles up throught the system (leave the sanding pad bare). Clamp the brake lever to the bar, and work the sander from the caliper all the way to the Master Cylinder. Go slowly; it should take 5 minutes or so to run the course.

OH. rebuild the caliper while you're at it. The piston seals are 30 years old too.
