My braking has been getting gradually worse and worse over the last few months. It was feeling extremely stiff and no matter how hard I applied pressure the brakes just wouldn't stop me quickly. I pulled the rubber boot off the brake lever and saw this (image attached)! The adjustment screw that contacts the piston was digging itself a little trench in the piston. When I clamped down hard it got stuck in this divot and didn't move the piston in any more.

1 small dollop of grease and it is working perfectly, but I do have a replacement coming as I am changing bars anyways.

Is this normal wear? Or a cheap replacement piston in there? (PO rebuilt it)

Normal wear, although unusual that it is grabbing on you.

Were it mine I would take a file or a bench grinder to the end of the bolt to round it off, and chase the threads afterward.

The scary thing to think about is that it would undoubtedly have locked the wheel if the screw jumped out of that hole! I have been really clamping down on the lever these last few weeks.

Thanks for posting, mine is doing the same thing. Will check that first before pulling the calipers apart.
