    Hi All
    I've an XJ900F - Model Code No. 3NG1 Frame/Eng No. 58L
UK Availability was from November 1988 - August 1989 and has Mikuni BS36CV carbs.

The starter clutch has gone on this bike, and after stripping the engine right down to get to this part, I've found I need to get the complete unit, not just the rollers and springs to repair it!

Due to time issues, and other projects/restorations I'm doing, I'm now considering selling the bike as a job lot for spares, but before I do, and go and advertise the complete bike on eBay and the like in the UK, because I belong to XJ bikes, I thought I'd see if there is any interest and enough of it from anyone here, to warrant me selling the bike in parts, rather than as a complete job lot.

The bike is otherwise complete, having done only 31,000mls, with all body & metal parts, engine covers etc, in good condition. The head, valves, cams and cam cover also, having been re-shimmed 5000 mls ago, and not needing any changes. All electrics are standard and work, starter motor, alternator, TCI etc. The engine is in pieces, but it's all there, boxed up and labeled up, including all gears, casings, pistons, shims, nut's, bolts & washers etc etc etc.

The exhaust is a Marshall deeptone 4:1, having only been on the bike for 4 months before the starter clutch gave out, so is in good nick - note, I did not need to change any jets in the carbs after fitting this, a plug chop confirmed all was ok. There is also a Givi rack for the panniers and top box which has a back rest.

I also have the genuine Yamaha YICS tool for balancing the carbs, and the tool for doing the shims, plus new CAM cover gasket.

If anyone is genuinely interested, please contact me with a PM, saying what you want, and your best offer, then we'll work out the best way for posting/shipping. Be realistic in your offers, as I'm only trying to recoup my losses, and help someone else out to keep these great bikes going.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a good XJ900F engine up for sell?

I would encourage you to re-group, and install the starter clutch.

Nobody in the USA has an "F" model 900 - - we only got the 1983 models and what sneaked in from Canada

I shipped my TURBO carbs to the UK, and shipping was $56.00, so there's no practicality in shipping your used parts here.

There are strong German and French XJ900F online communities.

But hey, do you have a belly-pan??

Stormbringer. There area couple reasonably priced engines on the UK ebay that would work as organ donors.
    YAMAHA XJ 900 COMPLETE ENGINE
    YAMAHA XJ900 (pre -div) ENGINE

Plus 3 others at higher prices.

Get in touch with this seller drinkmrfish100. He is currently breaking a 900F, and just might have the starter clutch assembly that you need.

You have better options for fixing that bike than we have here in the states.

    TtR.
Once you get past the full fairing. The 900F is the nearly the same as the 900R that we have here in the states. The only other difference that I have found is in the rear signal mounting, and rear fender. These appear to be market based differences, and the parts will interchange.

This will be your best bet for a belly pan

I'm looking into shipping charges on the bellypan - thanks!

There's a few more differences on the newer ones.
Bigger motor, slightly different carb size, and possible different ignition?
A "normal" handlebar instead of the "adjustable alloy" set-up,

I'd love to have one of the "F" models.

Most of the differences are market based. Gotta just love the EPA.

Also check on the mounting hardware, and let me know how it turns out. I may be looking to get one myself.

    HI Guys

Thanks for all your input. The bike is in good condition overall, and it's a shame that this design weakness causes so much grief. Just to have to strip it down to replace the rollers & sprongs alone is a nightmare, though gives you the chance to do a good overhaul on all those gremlins.

I have rung some of the sites advertising engines, and the majority are high mileage - to fit a SC from one of these, & then only to have to go through it all again because this ones gone is not my kind of fun.

I will look for a 2nd hand lump to fit, rather than rebuild this one, and if nothing comes along soon, I think I'll go ahead and break the bike.

TtR I do have a belly pan, I took it off as I prefer to see all the exhaust, as I had only just fitted a brand new Marshall Deep Tone - lovely sounding exhaust, and no jetting issues either. If you get stuck for a belly pan, then send me a PM, and we'll work something out.

Good XJ's are still out there, I just missed out on a superb condition 1992 XJ900F with 9500mls on the clock with MOT's to back it up - up for sale for £850 - what's that about $1200 ?

Take it easy guy's, Summer will soon be here again !

    Hi.

I am after an exhaust for my old XJ900f 58L. I'd prefer a collector box as I have goo downpipes and silencers. But I saw you have a deeptone 4 1into 1 in good condition. How much do you want for that please? I have a belly pan and mounting bolts for the xj900f.
I'm also after the air scoops which attach to the front underneath the tank.
